Vero Beach Art Club

Art classes are where you learn about brushes, paints, mediums, strokes, how to prepare your surface, how to paint, how to take care of your tools.

A workshop is where you learn a particular artist's methods.

Workshops are an important opportunity to continue to grow as an artist.

Georgina Love - ‘Fascinating Trompe l’oeil’: Tricks of “Trick the Eye”

Website: https://www.saatchiart.com/paintedskye

Medium: Oil

Level: Intermediate to Experienced
Dates: December Sat 2/Sun 3
Time: 10 am to 5 pmLevel: Intermediate to Experienced
Dates: December Sat 2/Sun 3
Time: 10 am to 5 pm
Price: $350 Non-Members / $325 Members

Workshop Description: Learn how to paint realistic oil paintings that “trick the eye”. Two dimensions can become three as you learn to create convincing textures and push the details to make the viewer think the object is real. In this workshop, the goal is to have each student work on a pre-arranged setup so that as many points as possible can be covered. Wood grain, rust, paper, and string will be just some of the things covered. The class will all paint the same painting, “With a Little Luck” so that we can concentrate on technique not drawing.

Project Piece - “With a Little Luck”

All students will be instructed on how to reproduce this image in the workshop.

A “support” on which to paint, with the drawing already transferred onto it, will be provided to students so students can get to painting immediately. There will be a setup of what will be painted for observation, and everyone will have a photo reference (necessary because it’s difficult to have the same setup for ten artists.) All techniques used will be discussed and the instructor will work on the same painting as the participants to demonstrate their use. The instructor will provide the finished painting at the start of the class, so students will be able to see what they are working toward producing. In addition, the instructor will also be working alongside the students on support similar to theirs so that they can also observe her techniques in action.

A Note From Georgina The works of the Old Masters have always interested me, and I have found a way to combine many of the old-world techniques with modern subjects. Trompe l'oeil has been something I have been working on since I saw an exhibition of the genre that really inspired me.  The challenge of re-creating simple objects to 'fool the eye' has been a great learning experience and has also resulted in some fun paintings! I just love the detail work! A number of my trompe paintings have won awards and I am always thinking of new subject matter. I love how oil paints work and allow the artist to create illusion - that's what painting is, after all!

Georgina serves as the Exhibits Coordinator at the A.E. Backus Museum and Gallery in Ft. Pierce, and she is also an expert fencer.

The materials list is posted and will be sent to participants upon registration.
