PLEIN AIR PAINTERS

Step Out of the Studio and Into the Landscape

There is a unique magic that happens when the studio walls fall away. The light shifts, the breeze carries the scent of salt and jasmine, and the world becomes your canvas.

The Vero Beach Art Club invites artists of all levels to trade their indoor easels for the great outdoors. Our Plein Air sessions are more than just painting dates; they are an exploration of the natural beauty that defines Indian River County.

Our sessions are open to everyone—members and non-members alike! We keep it simple so you can focus on your craft.

Why Join Our Plein Air Sessions?

  • Breathtaking Locations: We hand-select the most picturesque spots in the county—from the sun-drenched Atlantic coastline to the serene, moss-draped shadows of our local parks.

  • A Creative Community: Paint alongside fellow enthusiasts. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or picking up a brush for the first time, you’ll find inspiration and camaraderie in the fresh air.

  • Total Artistic Freedom: No prompts, no pressure. Just you, your medium, and the landscape.

"Plein air painting is about more than just a finished product; it’s about the experience of being present in the moment."

Plein Air Painters Dates

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Not at all! While we love our members, our Plein Air sessions are open to everyone in the community. It’s a great way to get to know the club and meet fellow local artists.

  • Since we paint in various terrains, we recommend a "light and lean" setup:

    • A portable easel (french easel, pochade box, or even a clipboard)

    • Your preferred medium (oils, watercolor, acrylics, or charcoal)

    • Brushes, palettes, and cleaning jars/rags

    • A folding stool or chair if you prefer to sit

    • A hat is also helpful in the Florida sun

  • This is Florida, so we keep a close eye on the weather! If we have to cancel or move a session due to rain or wind, we usually notify the group via email or our social media pages. When in doubt, feel free to text Michaela.

  • Participation in our regular meet-ups is free. You just need to provide your own transportation and art supplies. Some specific locations (like state parks) may have a small entrance or parking fee, which we will note in the location announcement.

  • Absolutely. Plein air is about the experience of painting from life. You’ll find artists of all levels, from professionals to hobbyists, and everyone is very supportive. It’s a "no-judgment" zone!
