Vero Beach Art Club
Anniversaries and Milestones
In 2016 the Vero Beach Art Club celebrated its 80th Anniversary in high style. We had a banquet with displays of our history and honored all of the past Presidents in attendance. Below are some of our photos and details on our milestone anniversaries.
Rebecca VanCordt, President of the Vero Beach Art Club was presented with a Proclamation from Jay Kramer, Mayor of the City of Vero Beach. Anna Valencia from Pak Mail lead us in a fun game. Certificates of Appreciation were given to VIP's, Committee/Event Chairs and other important people who contribute so much to the success of the Vero Beach Art Club. All Past Presidents in attendance were recognized and also received a certificate. Agnes Manganelli, a colored-pencil portrait artist gave a wonderful demonstration.
The 80th Anniversary celebration was held in the Vero Beach Community Center on November 3, 2016. The Vero Beach Art Club was founded in 1936 by a small group of artists lead by Jeanette Beach and it was originally called the Vero Beach Sketch Club (see our history page for more information). There were historical articles and photos displayed at the event giving attendees a brief tour of the Club's rich history.
Approximately 225 VIP's attended this wonderful event along with many of the 500 current and long time members. Operating with only 1 paid employee, the Club's volunteers were instrumental in leading the Club to become a premier art organization holding several shows and sales throughout the year. Our Under the Oaks Fine Arts & Craft Show, which was in its 66th year at the time, has been recognized as one of the top 20 shows in the nation.
As part of the Anniversary celebration, the Club also added Miracle Mile Banners which have now become a new bi-annual exhibition for our members. Our artists submit their artwork for their banner (which also displays contact information), and the banners hang for a full 18 months (coming down temporarily for the holiday season).
We also donated a mural for the Community Center.
The Vero Beach Art Club held a wonderful 75th Anniversary celebration on April 21st in the Holmes Great Hall in the Vero Beach Museum of Art with wine and hors d'oeuvres with music by Stringsations Quartet.
George Bollis have a brief speech on the history of the Vero Beach Art Club as a slideshow of past photos and news clipping played overhead. Then past Presidents Eleanor Caruso (1977-1979), Marlene Putnam (1983-1984), Christina Buttenberg (1993-1995), Jeanne Peterson (1999-2001), Marjorie Bohler (2003-2005), Anne Malsbary (2005-2007), and Sue Dinenno (2008-2010) were each presented long stem roses by current President Rita Ziegler. Mayor Jay Kramer presented Rita and the Vero Beach Art Club with a proclamation for their 75th and remarked on the "good works" of the Club.
Alma Lee Loy was bestowed an Honorary Life Membership for her role as Chair of the Civic Center Arts Adivsory Commission and bringing the Art Club and the Alliance for the Arts together as co-lessees on the land to build the Center for the Arts.
Dawn Mill and Chris Peasce presented Rob Slezak, Director of the Vero Beach Recreation Dept the second of two murals to be painted this summer and reside in the Community Center. The murals were donated by the Art Club and the Under the Oaks committee to the City of Vero Beach.
It was a very special night and we thank everyone for attending.
